WHO IS TEAM ICE HEAVE? Xtreme Reel Liquid Dry Lubricant
Xtreme Reel Dry Lubricant

I was recently sent a bottle of Xtreme Reel by the North American Fishing Club to test out and review.  The timing couldn't have been better, as I had just pulled out all my ice fishing gear and was sorting through everything getting it ready for the up coming hard water season.  What better time to test out a reel lubricant than now after the abuse they faced during the previous season, and having them packed away all summer.

So the testing begins.  I tried it out on four different reels, all in different stages of their fishing careers.  The Pfleuger President, which was new this spring, two  Silstar "Tiny 20's" that are currently going into their third hardwater season, and the old trusty Quantum that I've had for five years or better.

I started with the Pfleuger President, which was already running smoothly and I wasn't sure if I would even notice a difference.  I was wrong.  After applying it to all the moving parts, this reel is smoother than it was out of the box, and will literally turn itself.  Walleye be warned.

Next it was on the Silstar 20's.  These reels are my favorite on the ice, unfotunately I can't find them anymore.  Isn't that typically how it works?  Anyway, thats a whole other discussion.

They had obviously been in better working order, but have been some-what maintained.  After running a little Xtreme Reel through them, they're good as new.  Seriously.  This stuff truely does dissolve grease, oil and salt on contact as you'll notice a change on the first revolution.

Now it was time for the hail mary.  The Quantum.  This thing has seen far better days, I won't sugar coat it.  It might even be considered junk to a lot of people.  This set-up has seen some hours.  Many a fish have stressed her drag and snapped her line.  The harsh conditions of a Minnesota winter have stiffened its parts and chipped at its skin.  Yet after a couple quick shots of this new lubricant, she's ready for yet another season on the hard water chasing whatever happens to swim by its bait.

Reel lubricant is something many people will overlook and it can cause havoc inside your reels when sand and other particles work their way inside.  This is one of those products I never would have tried if I wasn't lucky enough to have the opportunity to test it, but now that I have, I'll be grabbing it off of shelves for years to come.
